No Narrative Kantha Studies
Series of fabric collages using Kantha quilting techniques. Kantha comes from India where it is utilized to tell stories with fine embroidery using straight on cloth. My Kantha works contain no narrative and employ shibori, rust dyed and batik hand dyed fabrics pieced with found fabrics, hand embroidered with straight stitch with commercial and hand dyed threads. The menotonous action of stitching pushes the physical limitations of my hand which in turn dictates the regularity of stitch and changes in thread size and colour.
